Lunar Nodes
The Lunar Nodes are two opposite points where the Moon's orbit intersects the ecliptic (the Sun's apparent path). The North Node (☊, Rahu) and South Node (☋, Ketu) are always exactly opposite each other and move backward through the zodiac, completing a full cycle in 18.6 years.
In astrology, the lunar nodes are considered pointers to your karmic path: the South Node represents what you've brought from the past; the North Node indicates the direction of growth in this lifetime.
South Node (☋) — The Past and Comfort Zone
The South Node points to qualities and skills already well-developed. This is "familiar territory" — easy and habitual, but without growth potential. In some traditions it's associated with past lives or early formative experiences.
The sign and house of the South Node show where you've "come from" and what you shouldn't use as a crutch. Over-reliance on South Node energy leads to stagnation.
North Node (☊) — Destiny and Growth Vector
The North Node is the direction of development. It often points to qualities that feel challenging, yet bring the deepest fulfillment and meaning. Moving toward the North Node requires effort and stepping outside the comfort zone.

When the Sun or Moon passes near the lunar nodes, eclipses occur. Eclipses are considered powerful astrological events that accelerate karmic processes — what must arrive, arrives; what must leave, leaves. The effect of an eclipse typically lasts 6 months.
