Retrograde Planets
A planet is called retrograde when, from Earth's perspective, it appears to move backward along the ecliptic. This is an optical illusion caused by differences in orbital speeds. Mercury Retrograde
The most well-known retrograde. Mercury rules communication, transport, technology, and commerce. During retrograde (3 times a year, ~3 weeks each):
- Avoid: signing new contracts, launching projects, major tech purchases, important negotiations
- Do: review old agreements, finish unfinished business, reconnect with old contacts, reflect on plans
- Common disruptions: mail delays, tech glitches, miscommunications, travel delays
The prefix "re-" is the key: re-view, re-vise, re-connect, re-consider.
Venus Retrograde
Occurs every 18 months, lasts ~40 days. Venus rules love, beauty, money, and values.
- Avoid: starting new romances, cosmetic surgery, radical image changes, luxury investments
- Do: reassess relationships, reconnect with past loves, re-evaluate financial priorities
Mars Retrograde
Every 2 years, ~10 weeks. Mars rules energy, action, competition, sexuality.
- Avoid: starting conflicts, surgery, extreme physical exertion
- Do: revise strategies, restore energy, address unresolved anger
Outer Planet Retrogrades
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto retrograde for several months each year. Their influence is less felt in daily life but significant for long-term processes and inner growth.
